Flying Musicians Association Solo Program

Purpose:

This scholarship is designed to award high school band members who have a passion for music and flying, a flight training scholarship that will take them through their first solo (15 hours).

Eligibility:

Applicants for this scholarship must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be nominated by band/music director.
  • Must have a passion for music and aviation, as well as have a desire to learn to fly.
  • Must be a junior or senior member of the band.
  • Minimum age is 16 (By March 31, 2017)
  • Proof of Citizenship (Country where training is to take place)
  • Able to obtain a 3rd Class FAA Medical Certificate, State issued Drivers License or equivalent)
  • Must have parental approval if under 18 years of age.

Value:

The value varies, however students will be awarded with flight training up to their first solo (15 hours of flight time).

Application Submission Process and Completion Date:

1. Nominations Due January 31, 2018

2. Finalists Notified March 1, 2018

3. Finalists Acceptance Due March 31, 2018

4. Awards Announced and Finalists Notified May 1, 2018

Selection Process:

Students will be selected for the scholarship based on their desire and passion for learning to fly as well as meeting the above requirements.

History/Background:

The flying musicians association is a non profit organization of pilots who are musicians, spanning the globe, proficiency levels and genres.  The goal is to share their passions in order to inspire, educate, encourage and assist others by creating enthusiasm and promoting personal growth in aviation and music.
