Hal Botsford Gift of Wings Fund

Purpose:

The Hal Botsford Gift of Wings Fund awards aviation enthusiasts grants to be used for student flight lessons, sky rides, training toward the pursuit of new ratings, or other aviation endeavors.

Eligibility:

The grant is available to all who are interested in flying. No gender, race, or age limitations apply.

Value:

$1,000.00 or higher

Application Submission Process and Completion Date:

Applicants must fill out the attached form (link below) and submit it, along with a written essay of 300 words or less. Your essay should describe your inspiration, desire, goals and reasons as to why you would like to receive the Hal Botsford Gift of Wings Fund grant. Please do not include any references to discriminating factors (gender, race, age, etc). If your essay contains such references they will be removed prior to being sent to our Judging Committee. Essays are to be sent to the Application Review Committee between January 1st and August 1st of the year you wish to participate/apply (US Mail to be postmarked no later than August 1).

Grant winners are announced on December 1st each year. A presentation ceremony is held shortly thereafter at the annual Hal Botsford Gift of Wings Fund Awards Night. *PLEASE NOTE: Local applicants are required to utilize HBGofWF Grant award monies locally, within a 50 nautical mile radius of Greenwood Lake airport (4N1) West Milford, NJ 07480.

History/Background:

Established in 2005 by his daughter, Alison Botsford, and his family; the “Hal Botsford Gift of Wings Fund” is a living memorial to Harold E. Botsford, Jr.

Hal was an avid aviator and an amazingly inspiring person. Among his many accomplishments; Hal was a flight instructor for 5 decades, climbed to the top of Mt. Rainier and the Matterhorn, participated in triathlons through age 75, and flew in over 125 countries! As a pilot Hal flew from April 16, 1942 consistently until lifting off into the air for the last time on February 27, 2005.
