Purpose:

Established in 1987 and funded by the Dean S. Edmonds Foundation, for Aeronautics at Daniel Webster College

Eligibility:

  • Intend to pursue a professional aviation maintenance career
  • Be a full time New England resident and a U.S. Citizen
  • Use scholarship funds in one year
  • Demonstrate a financial need and scholarship for the award
  • Be at least 16 years of age
  • Take the training at a FAA Far Part 147 compliant school in New England
  • The apply to all Aero Club A&M scholarships. This scholarship also has the requirement of use at Daniel Webster College

Selection Process:

In accordance with the objectives set forth in its Constitution, the Aero Club of New England has established a scholarship program to encourage and help support careers within aviation. All scholarships are awarded annually and recipients are selected on the basis of merit and need.

History/Background:

In 1987 the Lockhart Smith, Jr. Scholarship was established and has been funded by the Dean S.Edmonds Foundation, for students studying Aeronautical Engineering at Daniel Webster College. Lockhart Smith served in the Naval Air Service during WWII After the war he attended East Coast. AeroTech and worked at Revere Airport. From 1956 to 1968, Lockhart taught at Wentworth Institute ofTechnology, and is currently Professor Emeritus. A long time ACONE member, Lockhart is an Advisor, Chair of the House and Library Committee, and is active in the Cabot Award, Education arid Auction Committees. Lockhart was awarded the Brewer Trophy Award. by NAA for service to aviation education
