99’s Fly Now Award

Purpose:

The FLY NOW Award (formerly the New Pilot Award) is a progressive award given to Associate Members of the Ninety-Nines, Inc. who demonstrate a need for financial assistance to become licensed pilots. The Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund has decided to expand the scope of this award to provide up to $6000 toward completion of the Recreational Pilot, Sport Pilot,  Private Pilot certificate, or non-U.S. equivalent, in any aircraft. This award will be given progressively to winners AFTER they complete four milestones in their training.

Eligibility:

  1. MEMBERSHIP: Applicant must be a continuous Student Pilot Member of the Ninety-Nines, International Organization of Women Pilots one month before the application deadline of March 15 (for Spring applications) or September 15 (for Fall applications) and if in a Section with Chapters, must be a Chapter Member.
  2. FINANCIAL NEED: Applicant must demonstrate a need for financial assistance to progress toward completion of her primary (first ever) pilot certificate.
  3. MENTOR: All applicants for a FLY NOW Award MUST have a MENTOR, who is a member of The 99s. The MENTOR must agree to communicate with the applicant at least once a month and support her as she passes through each stage of the AWARD.
  4. FLIGHT TRAINING: Applicant must meet the following requirements at time of application:
    • a)  TYPE OF TRAINING: Applicant must be pursuing her primary (first ever) pilot certificate or license, such as the Recreational Pilot certificate, Sport Pilot certificate, or Private Pilot certificate, or non-U.S. equivalent. This training may be in any aircraft type appropriate to the primary pilot certificate sought, such as airplane, glider, hot air balloon, etc.
    • b)  MEDICAL CERTIFICATE: If required for the primary pilot certificate being sought, applicant must have a current, valid medical certificate or evidence of medical eligibility.
    • c)  WRITTEN KNOWLEDGE TEST: Applicant does NOT need to have passed this test at the time of application.
    • d)  FLIGHT HOURS: Applicant does NOT need to have soloed.
    • e)  NON U.S. APPLICANTS: Must meet any additional requirements of the country where training will occur.
  5. APPLICATION: The FLY NOW Award application is the mechanism by which the applicant states her request for financial assistance. The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the application is complete and true in every respect – omission of required information or providing fraudulent information is grounds for disqualification and withdrawal of Award.

Application Submission Process and Completion Date:

Each applicant who belongs to a Chapter needs to request a recommendation from her Chapter Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Chairman. In addition, each applicant must have a Mentor, a 99 who will support them through the training process.

The files may be downloaded OR printed OR filled out while online. The file can be saved to your personal computer. This application contains all the information needed by the applicant. In addition, there is a document containing instructions for the Chapter (or Section) Scholarship Chairman. The application is available on the 99s website.
