SWAAAE Michael A. Shutt Academic Scholarship

Purpose:

In the fall of each year SWAAAE announces the availability of applications and the start of the solicitation process for one $1,500 SWAAAE Michael A. Shutt Academic Scholarship. The scholarship is presented at the Airport Management Short Course. Anyone seriously pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in airport or transportation engineering, environmental, planning, or airport management, may apply for this scholarship.

Eligibility:

The recipient is expected to attend the entire conference and receive their award at the conference awards banquet. You do not need to be a member of SWAAAE to apply for this scholarship, however you must attend a college in Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah or Hawaii or have a permanent address in these states.

History/Background:

Michael A. Shutt 11/24/47 to 11/09/09
Born and raised in Buffalo Hart, Illinois, Mike graduated from the University of Illinois – School of Engineering in 1969. Mike was an influential aviation consultant for more than 35 years and the former owner of Hodges & Shutt, and Shutt Moen Associates and a Vice President for Mead & Hunt, Inc. He was an active member of Southwest Association of Airport Executives for more than 33 years and served as a SWAAAE corporate board member from 1999 to 2003. As a certificated instrument pilot he logged over 4,000 hours as pilot in-command time.

Mike was a leader and problem solver who displayed integrity and passion for the development of airports and aviation facilities. Mike’s contributions to the airport industry include the planning and engineering development for over 100 airports in California, Arizona, Nevada, and the Western Pacific Islands.
